In celebration of Women's Month in South Africa, we're chatting to influential business leaders. Robyn Smith founded her company Faithful to Nature about 17 years ago, and since then, it has become a popular online health shop in South Africa. We asked her about her journey and what Women's Day means to her.
I founded the company at a time when public education and awareness around the need and benefit of toxic-free products were just starting to bloom. I was a passionate consumer of ethically-minded products myself and felt a deep need to provide a platform to others where they could shop in a convenient worry-free environment that they could trust.
We're constantly bombarded by how much is going wrong on our planet, and it gets overwhelming fast, so one of the best ways we can fight back is to provide the everyday customer with solutions to choosing a better world.
I'm a passionate advocate of the power of reviews. There's no better way to market or sell a product than through the voice of one's customer. As a result, we have incentivised our customers aggressively over the years to leave and share reviews, and we use these often in our curated content.
At Faithful to Nature, we're all about authenticity, and there's no more authentic way to verify a product than from the lips of other customers.
Our dreams find us for a reason, and life's too short not to do everything in our power to make our dreams happen. Women have a natural ability to create genuine connections with their clients, so harness that well.
As a result, we're also naturals when it comes to creating an authentic brand voice which, in turn, feeds one of our most valuable business assets, which is brand equity. So, don't be afraid to do business like a woman – play to your skill set rather than trying to do business like the men around you.
Women's Day is such a powerful shout-out to validate a world that is changing for the better. A world where we celebrate our diversity and uniqueness and a world where everyone is given a fair chance. As a society, we still have a long way to go, but this is a powerful cause as any to create a free and fair world for all to prosper.
