The Challenge

Debt is the hardest category to build a reputation in: even satisfied clients hesitate to review, not wanting to be associated with debt. NDA had a thin online presence and was losing prospects.

The Solution

Build the reputation anyway. NDA made leaving a verified review easy, asked every client, ran a focused campaign on Hellopeter, and committed to replying to every review that came back.

The Challenge: Debt Is the Hardest Reputation to Build

National Debt Advisors is one of South Africa's leading debt counsellors, built on CEO Sebastian Alexanderson's idea of walking with clients out of financial distress and into freedom. But in debt counselling, trust is the entire transaction. A prospect is handing you the most stressful part of their life and asking you to fix it, and before they ever call, they check whether you can be trusted with it.

That's where NDA hit a wall most businesses never face. Debt is taboo. Even clients NDA had genuinely helped were reluctant to leave a public review, because doing so meant admitting, in public, that they had been in debt in the first place. So the people most likely to recommend NDA were the least likely to say so out loud.

Paired with a thin online presence, it meant prospects researching debt counsellors simply couldn't find proof that NDA was good, and quietly chose someone else.

Debt review is also a category where vulnerable people have been burned before, by operators who overpromise and underdeliver, so a prospect's guard is already high and the bar for proof is higher still. A thin, quiet profile doesn't just fail to reassure in that context; it reads as a warning sign.

The question NDA had to answer was unusually hard: how do you build a public reputation when your happiest customers are the most reluctant to talk?

The Solution: Build the Reputation Anyway

NDA treated the silence as a problem to solve, not accept. The plan was to make leaving a verified review as easy and low-pressure as possible, ask every client at the right moment, and put real momentum behind it with a focused campaign on Hellopeter, the platform prospects were already checking before they decided.

The second half of the plan mattered as much as the first: respond to every review. Debt clients need to know a company will stay with them, so visible, consistent responses, on the glowing reviews and the difficult ones alike, became proof in themselves. Done steadily, the growing volume of verified reviews and the visible engagement turned a near-empty profile into a credible, public body of proof.

The Results

Then: A Turnaround in Two Months

The campaign worked fast. NDA's review volume rose by 400%, the large majority of them five-star. Its overall rating climbed by 200%, its TrustIndex rose by 50%, and the business jumped from 65th in its industry to 2nd, in just two months.

NDA put those verified metrics on its own website, and the reputation it had built started converting the very prospects it had been losing. Its National Debt Advisors on Hellopeter profile became the public proof that researching prospects had been unable to find before.

Now: A Reputation That Compounds

Years on, NDA sustains a 9.5 out of 10 TrustIndex and a 4.85-star rating across more than 1,600 reviews in the past year, and it replies to essentially every one of them.

Hellopeter's AI analysis, reading the actual content of those reviews, confirms where NDA is strongest: its consultants. Clients name the specific advisor who guided them and describe warm, knowledgeable, patient help through a stressful process. In a category built entirely on trust, that's exactly the right thing to be known for.

It's also the hardest thing to fake. A warm, capable consultant who stays with a client through months of debt review is a real operational strength, and the volume of reviews naming individual advisors shows NDA has built it at scale.

Why It Matters

For a debt counsellor, a visible, responded-to reputation isn't a vanity metric. It's the difference between a prospect picking up the phone or bouncing to a competitor they could find more proof about. NDA took its single hardest problem, a category where people don't want to be seen, and turned it into its most dependable source of new clients.
